Frequently Asked Questions

After years of experience, we have found that there are some questions that every bride has when they begin to look for a wedding cake. Listed below are some of the most popular ones that we get.

  • How do I schedule a consultation and reserve my date?

Currently, we offer consultations by e-mail, scheduled phone calls or zoom meetings (if needed). In most cases, we are able to accomplish everything via e-mail. Tastings are being done by pick-up only. (see tasting details on the next question)   To start the process, please send us an e-mail with the following information: your events date, venue or delivery location, preferred delivery time, and some ideas of cake designs you have in mind. If you don’t know it, we can for sure go over and design something totally unique for you.  But I have found, that many couples have an idea and pictures of what they would like. Sending us that information beforehand helps us to speed up the process by giving you an accurate quote as well as check our availability. We also post quite often to Instagram if you need ideas, follow us @cake.ut

If you choose to order a cake from us, you will need to be prepared to remit a $200 retainer which reserves our services and is non-refundable/non-transferable.  We accept credit cards, check, and cash. We only reserve dates with a signed contract and the $200 retainer. This retainer will go towards your cake balance.

  • Do you offer samples/tasting?

Samples are only offered with a minimum order of $450.  If your date is already reserved with us, a complimentary sample box will be offered and scheduled for pick up.  If your date is not yet saved, you can order our sample box for $30. This does not guarantee your wedding date reservation.

The sample box will contain single layer slices (cake and frosting/not a filled slice) of our most popular flavors, plus “baker’s choice” of any other flavors we have on hand that date. Usually there will be at least 6 flavors to try.  If there is a specific flavor you would like to try, we offer an additional small sample size cake for $25 per flavor.

  • Do you offer in person consultations?

We find that in most cases a virtual consultation is able to answer most questions and provide an accurate quote in the most timely manner. Some projects ($1,500+) may require an in person consultation. Those are determined on a case by case basis. In person consultation are billed at a rate of $25 for every 30 minutes and will be dependent on availability.

  • How soon do I need to order my cake?

We usually book 3-4 months ahead. May through September fills quickly. So it's best to order as early as you can for these months. A $200 retainer and an e-signed contract will put you on our calendar. The balance is due one month before your event.

  • Do the prices include the fresh flowers?

No. You need to order your flowers through your florist. You get the best price that way, and you are sure the flowers will match. We will provide any handmade sugar paste flowers, sugared fruit, etc. Please note that fresh florals are not added to the cake by us, they will need to be arranged with your florist to design the fresh florals after we deliver the cake to your venue.

  • Does your base price include a cake stand or do I need to purchase one?

Our base prices do not include the cake stand. We do however, have a large collection of stands that we exclusively offer to our customers for rental.

When renting from us both the stand and the plexiglass plate under the cake will need to be returned to us after the event (max 3 days). This will be on our contract.  Average stand rental price is $45-65. We do have a couple of custom stands that will rent for $200-500.

If stands or plates are returned broken or late, then the full price of the item plus a restocking fee will be charged to replace the item(s) rented. Averaging $250+ per item.

Depending on your cake size, you may choose to purchase your own stand.  If going that route, your cake will come on a disposable cake drum, so no items will need to be returned to us. I will give you the dimension needed if you would like to purchase your own stand. But usually, it would be safe to have a stand that is at least 2-4” larger than your cake drum. We also have an Amazon storefront where you can find some amazing ideas!

  • Do your cakes taste as good as they look?

You bet! We have been the winner of best Event Cakes & Confection every year since 2014 at Best of State Utah. We also won Best Tasting Cake on TLC'S Ultimate Cake Off and best flavor on Utah’s Taste Off. We are well known for great taste. We always get thank you notes commenting on how delicious, moist & flavorful our cakes are.

We do offer samples with a minimum order of $450.  If your date is already reserved with us, a complimentary sample box will be offered and scheduled for pick up.  If your date is not yet saved, you can order our sample box for $30. This does not guarantee your wedding date reservation.

You can see a list of our flavors here, keep in mind we are not limited to those, so if you don’t see your favorite flavor there, just let me know.

  • Which are your most popular flavors?

Bourbon Vanilla is #1. Raspberry Swirl is #2. Also very popular are our Lemon, Hummingbird, Almond Amaretto and Bourbon Pear. Our cakes are always made fresh with the very best ingredients. They are always moist and flavorful.

  • Can I choose more than one flavor?

Yes. Just keep in mind there may be some guests that will like a slice of each flavor offered ;)

  • Why is your fondant better?

We take the time and effort to make our own tasty fondant. It is soft and pliable when you cut it. There is never a bitter after-taste (as with industrial type fondants). We always ice the cake with buttercream before we cover it with a thin layer of fondant. That way you get the beauty of fondant, and the great taste of buttercream. We are happy to give you a sample.

  • What size cake will I need?

That depends on how you will be using it. Will it be on display for most of the evening and cut toward the end? Will some of your guest have come and gone before you cut the cake? Usually a 3 tier cake will be enough to serve those who are there toward the end of the evening.

Is the cake serving as dessert after a sit down dinner? In this instance you need to be sure you have a nice sized slice for each guest, which usually requires a larger cake. "Dessert slices" are larger than a "reception slice".

Other points to consider: How big of an impact do you want your cake to make? How large is the area where it will be displayed? Is the cake high on your priority list? Is the cake a grand centerpiece?

***Please note: Any cake you see can be made in either a larger or smaller version. Don't choose your cake style solely by the size you see in the picture.
